Jessica had never been so happy in her life to see the soccer field was vacant. Now more than ever she needed to be at home on the field. Everyone knew who she was on this field, she was a star, a captain and a good leader. She could be depended on. On another field, her new home, Jess knew she could never be any of that.
Every so often she would glance over at her varsity hoodie the number 9 printed largely on the back. Hidden beneath it, shoved close by her equiptment bag was her biggest secret. The marching bands snare drum lay there in silence, but in Jessica's mind it was pounding furiously as if calling everyone to see. Beckoning for everyone to know the she was a band geek.
It wasn't the teasing or the less then flattering title that bothered Jessica so much. It was her being forced to do something she swore she would never do again. Going against herself, making a sacrifice she wasn't sure she could handle. Furiously Jessica kicked the soccer ball begging the constant rhythm to stop. It did, ending with the all to familiar sound of ball meeting flesh.
