Vanilla had been roaming through the mall, by herself. She was a big girl, and a senior in high school. She felt she could take good care of herself. She grabbed her iPod from her purse that she had brought with her. She put the blue headphones in her ear, scrolled down to Shuffle Songs, and pushed the middle button. Music was her passion. It didn't matter if it was listening to her iPod, or playing her clarinet, Adalyn, she loved music. The first song that came on was Time To Dance by Panic[!] At The Disco. It was one of her favorites, and she loved to dance for it. It had dance written in the title! So, why not dance. Even though she was in the middle of the mall, she started to dance a little as she walked. It wasn't very good dancing, and she was sure she saw some soon-to-be cheerleaders saying, "Look at that geek," but she didn't care. She was proud of who she was, and nobody could change her.
Vanilla started to mouth the words as she walked. "Come on this is screaming photo-op," the song said, and her lips mouthed the words right on cue. She moved across the mall to the beat of her music, her feet hitting it when they were suppose to. That was the worst part about being a band geek. You want to stay in step with everyone, and you marched to the beat of the music that was playing. It was more embarrassing then bad. Though, she managed to do it anyway. She stopped dancing and turned down her iPod when she ran into someone. She didn't look up, but kept her eyes on the ground, and mumbled something that came out to be a, "Sorry," to the person that was in front of her.
A young man was walking trough the mall smoking a cigeratte as usual and he didn't care who saw him. He walked without a care towards an unknown destination and looked at the millions of people in the mall. This was the one thing he hated the most. He looked lightly around and saw a couple cheeleaders staring at him and whisering things to each other. One of the girls approached and he ignored her attempt to charm him.
He was wearing a black Panic[!] at the disco shirt and a pair of blue jeans. On his feet he had black and blue converse shoes. His hair was spiked on top of his head and it was brown as usual. He had on his dog tags and his Letter man Jacket. His skate board was in one hand and his other he had alit cigeratte.
As he walked he bumped into someone and his cigeratte flew into the trsh can and on to an icecream cone which put it out. 'dangit' he thought as he looked at the girl that was now looking at the ground. "Its ok sweetheart." he smiled lightly towards the girl. He looked at her and she looked a bit older then he was.
Vanilla looked up when he called her sweet heart. She didn't know why he would say that, since he probably didn't even like her. She was the drum major of the band, which everyone else in the school hated. It was seriously weird to how everyone hated band geeks. But, it was good. The band kids stuck together, and they hated everyone else. Everyone that hated them at least. She moved her hair over her shoulder as she examined the boy. She wasn't exactly sure who he was, but he looked extremely familiar. She took her iPod out of her ears, and continued to examine the boy. She was determined to figure out where he was from.
When it finally clicked in her brain, she backed up from him. Her gaze turned into a small glare. He was Jonny Depp. The quaterback of the Willmington Regional High School football team. Oh how everyone cherished him. Everyone except for Vanilla, and most of the other band geeks. Jonny was like the head boy of the football team. Vanilla was basically head of the band, seeing as she was the main drum major. She wasn't the only senior, but she had been a drum major for three years, where the others hadn't. She kept her gaze as a glare as she just thought of what to say. The boy was something she didn't want to get involved in, but it was rude to just walk off, and it wouldn't do a very good reputation for band geeks. "You have no right to call me sweet heart," she said bitterly. She was upset that she had to be graced with the presense of the boy, never mind converse with him.
He looked at the girl as she was rude to him. He had never even met this girl but he knew why she was acting this way. He was the most popular boy in school and she was the drum major. He looked lightly at her and rolled her eyes lightly. He looked lightly at the girl and frowned lightly. Why did people make this so hard for him to be different. He wanted to be not popular. Yeah he loved football but he hated the popularity most of the time. He looked at her and frowned lightly.
"I was just trying to be nice. You were the one who bumped into me I could have yelled and threw a fit. But I am trying to be nice." he said lightly to the girl. Yes he was a football player but he didn't like any of his so called friends and he needed to branch out. He wanted to different. His football buddies didn't like or approve of his smoking. He smiled lightly and looked at the girl.
Vanilla's glare never changed. There was no way she could possibly get along with any of them. Especially the way they all got treated. It was upsetting to think about it. How she had to protect all the unknowing freshman. She warned each and every one of them. Especially about the head cheerleader, Jonny's sister. "Why would you want to be nice to me" she asked, never changing her gaze, "I'm the drum major. You're the quarter back. You should be bashing on me." Her voice was more matter of fact than she intended it to be. It was corrupting the social hierarchy, where Vanilla was happily sitting on the bottom.
Vanilla was happy with the way she was, and who she was. She was the drum major of the best band in the state. It was the best feeling for her, knowing that she had been playing one year, and conducting the rest. It made her confidence rise when she became drum major as a sophmore. She didn't care what the other social people said, but she cared about protecting her fellow band mates. It was hard for her to accept that Jonny was trying to be nice, since his sister, Veronica, was the Head Cheerleaders, and Vanilla's rival.
He looked at her and rolled his eyes. Why was he even trying to be nice to this girl when she wouldn't give him the time of day. He had all these girls throwing themselves at him. But he was talking to this girl. He couldn't help but ask himself why. He looked at the girl and then pulled out another cigeratte and lit it lightly. He took a puff then looked at her lightly. He listened to her talk and he frowned lightly. He knew that she was arch rivals to his sister but why did they have to hate each other.
"Look I want to be your friend. I am not like other Jocks I personally have no problems with band kids. I actually am different from most jocks. Will you give me a chance and stop giving me the stink eye please." he said lighlty taking another puff of smoke into his mouth then blowing it out lightly. He looked at the girl and frowned lightly then smiled towards her brightly. His accent was stronger then ever at this point.
Vanilla wrinkled her nose when he lit up a cigarette. She knew he was too young to even get cigarette's in the first place, and he would kill himself like that. Her eyes lightened up a little, but not that much. "You going to continue to smoke?" she asked. She was allergic to the cigarette smoke, and it bothered her that he was smoking. Her dad had smoked, and it always bothered her then too. She didn't like people who smoked, since her allergy, but it didn't mean she didn't like their personality. It just meant she had to stay away from them more.
Her allergies were always a big deal. She couldn't go into pools, because the chemicals made her skin feel like it was burning, she couldn't use dove products, since it made her break out, and she couldn't wear anything less than fourteen karot jewelery, since she was allergic to fake jewelery. It was hard to express all of the things that she was allergic to. It was hard to live with too, since a lot of it was what normal people would wear or do everyday. She wished she didn't have them, but she did, and she had to live with it.
He looked at her lightly and put out the cigeratte. "If you don't like it I won't do it around you." he smiled brightly as he looked at her. He smiled lightly and looked at her. He then looked down to his feet. He looked at the girl and smiled lightly. He looked around and sat on the ledge right beside the trash can. He smiled lightly towards her.
"So can we be friends?" he asked her lightly. He smiled and looked at her again. He then looked around to see the cheerleaders looking at him and throwing flirty glances his way. He rolled his eyes and looked back at the girl infront of him. He smiled a flirty smiled towards her so the girls would get the hint he wasn't interested in them.
He looked at her and smiled again. "I'm Jonny." he said lightly. He smiled lightly and looked at her again. He smiled lightly and looked around again. He smiled lightly and looked at the girl. "Well Richard but i don't like that name." he laughed lightly.
She laughed lightly. "Yes, I guess we could try. But if your sister attacks me, I'm blaming you," she pointed out to him, and took the seat next to him. When he told her who he was, she laughed slightly, more to herself than to him. "I know who you are. Remember, I'm at all the football games," she said, smirking a bit. It was true that she had been to all the games. Sure, she had never seen him her freshman year, but she had to pretend to enjoy football in order to really be a good band kid. It was like, the unwritten rule of the band geeks.
She crossed her legs, the bare skin resting against eachother. Her plaid skirt was black with pink lines, making it plaid. Her shirt was a soft pink, but not bright, like you'd see the cheerleaders wearing. It was very unlikely to see Vanilla wearing that, especially since her friends would have a feild day with jokes on 'turning on them to the cheerleading bitches.' She'd probably die before she became a cheerleader. She felt that cheerleading wasn't a sport, and that band was way more of a sport than that. It seemed like it to her, but who knew what others thought.
He looked at her and smiled he was glad that they were gonna give being friends a chance. But when he heard her say that if his sister attacked it was his fault he laughed lightly. "Yes well you see I have no control over that Drama queen Sorry." he said smiling. He looked at her and laughed when she said she knew who he was. "Well hun the whole part of starting a new friendship is to start all over again."he smiled lightly.
He looked at her and laughed. he smiled and pulled his legs to his chest and smiled. He looked at the Girl and her outfit. It didn't look like her and it kind of annoyed him. He looked lightly and smiled and then looked at her up and down. He really didn't like when girls wore stuff like that it made her look like his sister. He shivered at the thought of his sister.
She laughed slightly. "Well, even if I didn't go to all the games, Mr. Depp, I'd still know who you were," she said, laughing a bit. Even if Vanilla warned all the freshman about the hierarchy of the school, they all seemed to be able to swoon over Jonny. It was hard to stop them. He was the quarter back, and there was nothing she could do to stop the little girls from crushing on him. It was like, trying to tell a chicken to stop clucking. Impossible.
She smiled at him, and then said, "Well, if we are doing introductions, I'm Vanilla Isdom." She laughed softly. She truly did love her name. It was so unique, and her middle name was her mother's name. She didn't remember much about her mother, only that she missed her very much. She was the only one that actually seemed to love her. Her dad didn't seem like it anymore. He hit her on occasions, and she didn't like it. He yelled at her a lot, and she wished that he would just go away one day.
He smiled at her. He was pretty popular which he hated. He looked at her and smiled lightly. She was pretty cute. He laughed lightly and smiled lightly and then looked at the girls around the cornors. He smiled lightly as one of them waved. He knew her and waved lightly towards her.
"Well you see I don't choose to be this popular. I am just doing what i want to do." he smiled lightly and looked out and looked around the mall lightly. He smiled and pulled out a pack of gum and started chewing a piece and held it out offering her a piece. He smiled lightly and held it thier.
"Nice to meet you Vanilla. Would you like to go get some coffe with me?" he asked lightly with the gum packet still out for her to. He smiled lightly and looked at her. She was pretty cool. He seemed to like band geeks they were better than jocks by far. Anyone would agree if they met half the football team and the cheerleaders. He laughed lightly to himself.
Vanilla denied the piece of gum. She wasn't much of a gum chewer, and she didn't like gum anyway. She smiled at him, "Sure. As long as the place you're thinking of sells cappuccinos," she laughed. That was the only type of caffiene she drank, since it was the best tasting out of all of them. No soda, no regular coffee, no expressos. Only cappuccinos. It seemed weird, but it wasn't really. She just liked good tasting drinks.
She got up, smoothing out her skirt. People would probably think it was weird to see the quarterback hanging out with the drum major. But like Jonny said, he didn't choose to be popular, so why should people really care. His sister cared, but did Vanilla really care about Jonny's sister? No. She didn't care what she did, and since Veronica was always trying to find ways to somehow hurt Vanilla, it made it easier for Vanilla to hang out with Jonny. She just smiled at him as she waited for him to get up.
