It was only fifteen minutes after the final bell had rung and where was Adeline but in the band room. She had taken her baritone saxophone and sat in a corner of the room, sitting Indian style with her saxophone laying across her lap. The case was open just a few inches in front of her and Adeline was performing her weekly scrub down of the over-sized instrument. She had out her cork grease and polishing cloth as well as her repair set. True, nothing was broken but Adeline figured she'd tighten up everything, just to be sure the instrument was in great working order.
With her full cleaning kit laid out in the case, Adeline began to polish the instrument starting from the top and working her way down. She was sure she'd be at this for the next hour or two, as she always was. Good thing she only did this once a week or else she'd never get in any practice time. Plus, it was pouring outside anyway, what else was there to do at the given time?

Jessica walked into the band room with her hoodie pulled over her head hoping nobody would notice it was her. Why am I here? she asked herself In broad daylight none the less. She sneaked into the corner knowing the exact reason. The band director had an extra snare drum which she insisted that Jessica take home to practice.
She hated that she had to be there and that she had too take band. Thanks to her devious mind she had figured out a plan. She would play and master tha music at home and then do nothing at band practice. If she was lucky they would say she wasn't commited or she would lose her spot on the line and not have to perform. That was if she was lucky but the fact she was standing in the band room now suggested she wasn't.
She turned around for the first time noticing a girl sitting on the ground cleaning her instrument. She faught back the want to laugh or say something. She didn't need someone to hate her and then blow her in.. Being a band geek could ruin her life.
"We're not diseased you know. There's nothing wrong with being in band." Adeline threw the remark at the girl that had recently entered the room. Adeline had paused only a moment to look up and see who it was before returning her eyes to the work at hand. "Besides, you're in percussion, I thought people thought that was grand...oh wait, you're not in a rock band."
Adeline didn't mean to be mean, well, then again... It just annoyed her when people in band shuddered at the thought of being there. "You know," She started, her tone of voice changing, becoming less abrasive, "If you want, I could drop off your percussion equipment outside of the room and you could pick it up...that way you wouldn't have to disgrace yourself and enter this room. Just as long as you don't screw up the show, I don't care what you do." The only word that she meant to be offensive was the word 'disgrace', but Adeline knew that the rest of it didn't exactly sound friendly.

People like the girl sitting there and cleaning her instrument reminded Jess of one of the reasons she snuck around when it came to marching band. They always got so offended, how did the girl know she wasn't cold or something. It was common knowledge that the band geeks viewed the jocks the same way the jocks viewed them. They believed neither was necessary and totally lame. "I never said there was and a rock band wouldn't make any difference thanks," she said with a small smile.
Jess laughed as the girl offered to drop her stuff off outside the room emphasizing the word disgrace. "What and miss all your friendly comments?" she asked sarcastically. She had been wondering for a long while now how many people thought she was going to screw up the show. This girl had ony just seen her a guessed it, but Jess wasn'y one to throw a game. "And uh thanks now not only am I a complete jerk I can't play either. Did anyone ever tell you how nice the marching band is?" Jessica mocked.
Adeline, know realizing the impact of her words (for she thought that this girl would just simply shrug it off) stopped cleaning her saxophone. She looked up at the percussionist and said, "I'm sorry, just didn't think a jock would actually allow themselves to come in here. I don't really get this whole mess, but I don't want to be the one to mess up the boundary that jocks have spent all their extra time building against the band." She didn't say this with a mean tone, but a casual one.
Realizing that the girl, Jessica as Adeline seemed to recall, probably wouldn't care for a word that the baritone saxophone player uttered, picked up her cleaning cloth and continued to go about an area around the top of the massive instrument. Grand, it looks about time to replace the pad on the high F key...

Jess turned to the girl sitting on the ground, snare drum in her grasp. "The band was just as quick to denounce us as brainless wonders. If you want to talk about the boundary built by us just remember band geeks built the wall too. At one point or another everyone agreed on their place don't blame me if you have a problem with it all." With that Jessica locked the small locker and put the snare drum in her quiptment bag.
She looked around the room for the thick packet of music left by the Band Instructor. Sure enough on her desk sat a stack of atleast fifteen papers of band music and cadences. Jessica glanced quickly at all the music, only one seemed ungodly difficult. She got the feeling that was by far the most important one of them all. "Don't be so quick to judge what you know nothing about," replied Jessica placing the music in a Manchester United folder. She placed that in her bag aswell pulling down her hood. It was four o'clock now and she was aware no one was around.

Adeline simply shrugged at Jessica's assessment of the wall built by both groups. It didn't really matter to her so much who built it anymore, just that it had been. She wanted to play soccer, basketball and join the track team, but figured everyone on those teams would harass her so she simply stayed away. Either way, who cared.
"Don't be so quick to judge what you know nothing about."
"I'll keep in mind," She replied before burying herself in her previous activity again. Adeline listened carefully to make sure that there was nothing left for Jessica to say. She didn't want to ignore her but then again, Adeline had been plenty rude to the girl already.
